Which has a longer tread life, Michelin Pilot Road 1 or 2? I have to ride through siberia this summer with my BMWK1200RS.

Hi, Concerning the life time especially tire wear the difference between pilot 1 and 2 is nearly identically. The pilot road 2 tire side walls are weaker than the pilot road 1 tire. The reason of this tire construction by pilot 2 tires is the improvement of riding comfort on smooth road surfaces in combination of lowest tire wear in the middle of the tire running surface. If you want to visit Siberia you can use in my opinion the pilot 1 tire because you will find flat and smooth roads surfaces very seldom in this area as you already know, I think.

Check here for technicalities of the tires: http://www.michelin.co.uk/michelinuk/en/motorcycle/details/20090202121683.html
I have not found any hints in a bulletin board as to a longer tread life of PR2, but, however, I personally prefer PR2 since to my experience the grip level is higher.
